We’ve teamed up with MR PORTER to celebrate World Mental Health Day and the second anniversary of their content and fundraising initiative, MR PORTER Health in Mind, which helps men to live healthier and happier lives. Their latest campaign, #MRPORTERGoOut, is all about the healing power of time spent with good friends in the great outdoors – and the positive impact that has on both your mental and physical health. So, we’ve come together to create some bespoke, London-based walks, complete with route info and café recs, to help get people walking and talking.

HIKE SUMMARY

Start your journey from Liverpool Street Station and catch the overground service to Chingford, right on the edge of the forest. The route takes you uphill and through the best of Epping Forest.  After working up an appetite, we recommend stopping for a drink or bite to eat at the Victoria Tavern and Gardeners Arms in Loughton. It’s then just a short walk down the road to Loughton Underground Station. When you’ve had quite enough of London’s bright lights and car horns, give yourself a little room to breathe.

Very lovely route, although some bits were very muddy, so just wear your hiking boots. It was perfect fuelling up at the pub halfway and then finishing the walk. Extra bonus, you walk past a supermarket near the end, so you can get some small dinner on the way home.

A truly glorious day out – and hard to believe that the wilderness of Epping forest is reachable by tube. Plenty of places to stop and observe the beautiful nature on the way. Lunch at the Victoria Tavern was the ideal stop off point for a beer and quick/long lunch (dependant on your preferences), the food was delicious and catered to every kind of dietary need. 5 star walk for a day trip out but not totally out of London.
